Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions

AKA Most of the Grateful Dead

Casual fans of the Grateful Dead may not realize that the band existed as a completely different band before it became known as the Grateful Dead. Garcia, Weir and Pigpen all were members of another band before they went on to create one of the best bands to ever exist. The band was known as Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions, which was also the name of their album. The album may have been recorded in 1969, but it was not released until 30 years later in 1999 because the tapes were thought to have been lost in the shuffle.

Have you listened to the jugband music on the album? If not, check it out and tell us what you thought of it below.
